What We Do

Centre for Governance and Leadership (CGL) is a node for research
on strategic policy issues facing Singapore.
It aims to further new insights,
catalyse thought leadership in the Public Service,
and advance Singapore's public governance model.

CGL connects thought leaders, academics and specialists, with policy makers in the Singapore government.
Our objective is to encourage critical thinking about our policies and assumptions, and so foster a fertile environment for debate. This supports the larger purpose of enriching the quality of policy thinking, leadership, and management in the public service.

To this end, CGL seeks to deepen knowledge across the public service as an focal point for agencies to discuss issues and examine cross-cutting problems. CGL's research features new and frontier thinking. It also elucidates the principles of governance that have contributed to effective policies in Singapore.

We achieve these objectives through a mix of research, conducted by our in-house research fellows and researchers, lectures, roundtables, and our slate of articles and publications that focus on governance and leadership. CGL hosts senior public-sector leaders, policy makers, researchers, and foreign experts to facilitate the exchange of ideas to generate new perspectives on public governance.

By injecting a diversity of views, and promoting the cross-fertilisation of ideas, CGL hopes to one, advance a deeper understanding of effective governance and leadership, and two, generate innovative solutions and strategies for social-economic development.
