GovernmentWare 2010 Strategic Security: Finding the Right Balance (Course code is GWRE2)
Course Code
:
OOGWRE2
Synopsis
:
A Premium Conference on Infocomm Security, rooted in Asia!
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Singapore, will once again host Governmentware, an annual event since 1991. This conference and exhibition will be held from 28 to 30 September 2010 at the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
The theme for this year’s Governmentware is “Strategic Security: Finding the right balance”, and focuses on the importance of adopting the correct strategy for IT security in today’s fast-changing infocomm environment. In particular, with the advent
of advanced persistent threats (APT) that target governments, companies and other groups, it has become increasingly evident that cyber criminals and cyber spies can and will attack their target networks. Cyber attacks are no longer a matter of “if”, but rather “when”, and sometimes, successful attacks may stay undetected for periods of time, during which much damage is done. As such, organisations need to more proactively minimise the opportunities for cyber threats, rather than react only after compromise. A fundamental rethink of organisations’ IT security architectures may be necessary. In doing so, however, there is still a need for organisations to balance between security, and organisational goals, usability and cost.
Objective
:
Keeping to our tradition of informing public officers about latest IT security threats, Governmentware 2010 will once again present the well-received closed-door Government track. This track is specifically crafted for the public sector, aiming to raise the IT security awareness of public officers, by providing updates on IT security threats, new initiatives and policies in the civil service.
Delegates can look forward to expert opinions and discussions on the latest IT security issues, together with advice on finding the delicate balance between operational needs and security requirements.
End-User Awareness Forum
Studies have shown that human mistakes/errors, and not system weaknesses, is one of the leading causes of security incidents. Indeed, adversaries often leverage on end-users’ “innocence” in IT Security to gain a foothold into targeted individual/organisation, and subsequently use this as a spring board for further penetrations. As such, promoting end-user awareness IT security is significant in achieving a comprehensive security profile that will enhance the overall security posture of the enterprise.
A new addition to Governmentware 2010, the End-User Awareness Forum aims to educate participants about the importance of information security and the critical role they play as an end-user; in order to be part of the enterprise total defence. The Forum will apprise the audience of the common threats they are facing and provide an insight on the
security measures and best practices that can be undertaken to mitigate the potential threats.
