Synopsis : Are you a follower of somebody’s Twitter, a fan of Facebook or a blogger who blogs often? You may or may not be but you need to know that the age of new media has arrived. New media is now impacting virtually all aspects of our work and life - from the way our organisation reaches out to stakeholders, to how we consume news and entertainment, to the way we keep in touch with our friends (and find new ones!).

This two-day course adopts a practical approach to helping you step into the world of new media, understand its culture and etiquette, and consider what it can do for you and your organisation. There will also be speakers from various agencies who will share how their organisations have implemented new media initiatives to engage stakeholders.

Objective : By the end of the course, you would be able to:
• understand the new media landscape in Singapore and the Government’s approach
• share how other public sector agencies have implemented new media initiatives to engage stakeholders
• describe the new media culture and its ettiquette
• develop content for blog, flickr and YouTube

Additional Fee Info : Participants from Ministries and Statutory Boards will only need to pay $319.20 per participant (inclusive of GST). PSD will co-fund 50% of the course fee i.e. $280. Grant is subject to change.

Eric Feng
Well known for his fresh insights and results-driven programs, Eric has made this
program very popular among public service officers in a short span of a year.

As a result, CSC has also increased the program frequency from twice a year to
nearly once every month.

Eric's expertise in communication has been translated into a book titled 'The FAQ Book
on Public Speaking', which sold over 8000 copies and became a national bestseller in 2008.

The skills that you will be learning in the program has helped him to build powerful teams and run successful businesses. This has led him to be recently featured on Business Week in the USA as one of the top 25 Young Entrepreneurs of Asia.

He has also been interviewed on The Straits Times, The Business Times, Channel News Asia, Lianhe Zaobao and Radio 93.8 for his knowledge in the field of communications.


Profile of other Trainers

Aaron Lye
Aaron is Assistant Manager (New Media Unit) at MICA. An avid writer since young, Aaron has over nine years of experience in the publishing and print journalism industry.

A freelance writer for eight years, he has been cited in various local publications, including The Business Times and 8 Days.

Prior to joining the public sector, he was an assistant editor with MediaCorp Publishing, working on trade and corporate publications. Now with the New Media Unit at MICA, he is part of the team helping to drive forward Whole-of-Government new media capability and understanding.

Aaron studied communications and political science in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, graduating with honours.

Kimberly Shen
Kimberly is Assistant Manager (Corporate Communications / Social Media) at the National Heritage Board's Corporate Communications and Industry Promotion Division. She handles NHB's new media initiatives and social media portal Yesterday.sg.

Designed to reach out to the online community and interest them in all things heritage-related, Yesterday.sg gives the common man a platform for sharing their thoughts of growing up in Singapore. She is also the producer / presenter for Heritage TV - a Yesterday.sg initiative that is a series of self-produced video clips which aims to shed light on the lesser-known side of Singapore's heritage.

A fervent lover of museums, she hopes to engage the younger, net-savvy audience and change perceptions of our local museums through the use of new media.

Ho Chee Har
Chee Har is Assistant Manager at the Reaching Everyone for Active Citizenry @ Home (REACH). She has been in REACH for 2 years and is in-charge of Media Relations and New Media.

The REACH New Media team was set up with the purpose of exploring new media channels, and tapping on new media to reach out and engage the net-savvy community. As part of the Media team, she is also in-charge of media relations and generating media publicity about REACH.

Ivan Chew
Ivan is in charge of Adult & Young People's Services at the National Library Board, where he manages a team of librarians in delivering services, organising talks, workshops and outreach programmes to schools, organisations as well as local and overseas community partners.

He has been conducting training on Blogging and Podcasting workshops on numerous occasions. Currently, he has six blogs and a podcast. Ivan has also taken a keen interest in Library Services for People with Disabilities.
